A good year. Started off spending five months with the guy I love, skiing and hiking and working a nine-to-five schedule with weekends off, and biking to work. In early June, my best friends and my little brother biked from Pittsburgh to DC, a rag-tag disorganized group of jokesters, becoming Mud People as the rain…

In and Out of the Arctic

At the age of 25, I left the East Coast. I drove to Alaska, “running from something or towards something,” they say here. I solidified a travel nurse contract while at a gas station parking lot near the border. I started the job in an Intensive Care Unit a week later, after not having worked…

Day 44: Homer Plans

Chris will be visiting soon, so I’m planning our adventures!

Day 43: Work Selfie

I like taking selfies because they are a fantastic reason to smile at myself. Also, look at that perfect wind-swept look I’ve got going on.

Day 42: Plans

The trip to Valdez totally energized me for Alaska. No sleep til the Lower 48! And I’m just gonna decide it’s fine to blow all my money.

Day 41: Thompson Pass

This selfie is from Thompson Pass. What followed, the rest of my day, was fucking incredible.

Day 40: Just Camping

The sun came out. Valdez is beautiful, and, for the record, I was totally wrong. Valdez is NOT the site of the Exxon-Valdez oil spill.

Day 39: Valdez

We’re floating around Valdez, entertaining ourselves through the clouds.

Walked out Thompson Pass.

Day 37: Sunrise Darkening

Changing seasons is super obvious in Anchorage. This is sunrise today, yesterday the sun was UP when I left the house.

Day 36: MOON BOUNCE

The institution I work for is pretty cool. Imagine a hundred indigenous kids in the evening sunshine blowing up balloons, getting their faces painted, and bouncing on the moon. This was the sight after my twelve hour shift.

Day 35: That Carrot Stick Life

I’m working day shift for a few weeks. I’m not a fan. I do, however, act like a Lady Bird and eat super healthy carrots every day. I can’t wait for night shift. Chocolate binging to commence!

Day 34: Rabbit Lake

Tried to go trail running today, but a mama moose and calf stood at the trailhead. I went up a different, exhausting, steep way and made it about 20 minutes before I realized it was way too hard. But the view was worth it, despite not running.

Day 33: Back to Pavement

So, I went to a carwash. Where I paid good money for machines to blast this hunk of metal with superpowered water and soap. And shit, it looks better, but not good enough.
